To Live in Abundance: How do you make that happen!? Here is how am I making that happen… 

We could get lost in a semantic or philosophical discussion about what living in abundance actually means to you, but that would probably trigger one of the core issues that I would like to explore with you today and what is keeping you from Living in Abundance, from Being Extraordinary:

Your Self-Limiting Beliefs 

For me personally, making this blog means I have to get over a few self-limiting beliefs. I can get pretty self-conscious; not feeling bold enough to put my thoughts and writings out into the world, afraid they will be met with criticism and ridicule; what do I know.. Why would anybody care etc. etc.

This is actually keeping me from doing something that I can also really enjoy:
sharing inspiration, telling stories, getting excited about things! Finding joy in this happens mostly when I am in FLOW.. the blissful egoless state, where patterns emerge and decisions are taken from an entirely different control centre..  That’s where I want to be! So what’s holding me back..

In this blog I want to explore together with you one of the core issues keeping us from achieving our goals. We will come to understand how to Stop Self-Limiting Beliefs and Live in Abundance!

What are self-limiting beliefs? 

Self-limiting beliefs are thought patterns that hold you back from making progress and achieving your goals. They are holding you back from living your life in abundance.

A Self-Limiting Belief….

  • keeps you from recognizing opportunities
  • discourages you from trying, from ‘doing the work’.
  • is you justifying things not working out by shifting the blame.
  • blaming your ‘personality’ for not achieving your goals.
  • is keeping yourself small by saying you do or don’t have the right traits or skills.
  • can be rooted in a perception of ‘how the world works’.

Where Do Self-Limiting Beliefs Come From

These self-limiting beliefs may be self-imposed, they may come from past experiences, or from people imposing them onto you. Your (social) education might have limited your belief system of yourself. Self-limiting beliefs are often rooted in fear, doubt and resistance. 

Of course now it will get interesting: be aware of all the thoughts of resistance you are confronted with in your head right now..?

You have the power to change and choose your own belief system, rooted in your own values, serving what matters most to you. You can consciously choose to create your own reality.

How To Stop Self-Limiting Beliefs And Live In Abundance

 

Step 1: RECOGNIZE YOUR SELF-LIMITING BELIEFS

First you identify what your self-limiting beliefs are. Start with one… Now, follow your thoughts and emotions and figure out what beliefs are behind them. This can be a sensitive process and requires attention, compassion and diligence.

Step 2: ACKNOWLEDGING YOUR BELIEFS

Don’t beat yourself up.. You’re doing great. Now figure out what the source is of your belief? Why do you think this way? What does this belief mean to you? Whom do you associate this belief with? Where did it come from? (If the process is too big and painful to handle on your own.. Help yourself by asking for help!)

Step 3: UNDERSTANDING HOW THE BELIEF MAKES YOU FEEL

How does it make you feel? Are there certain areas in your body that you associate with the feeling? Do you understand the cause and effect? Reflect on this and bring in the light.

Step 4: ACKNOWLEDGE THIS IS A TRUTH NOT A BELIEF

Do you understand that your belief is keeping you from achieving? Or do you still think it is true? Why is it true or false? Have you just now in this process identified another Self-Limiting Belief?

Step 5: EXPLORING ALTERNATIVE BELIEFS 

Now that you are able to let go of these beliefs, try imagining an outcome after a new belief. Picture yourself without the self-imposed limitation, what are you achieving? Who are you now!

Step 6: TAKING DIFFERENT ACTIONS 

Now that you have an alternative belief, do something based on this new belief. Most likely you will have to get outside of your comfort zone… (Yay!) Do something without limitation, beyond what you before thought possible. Even a small new and exciting step towards the new belief is a great start.

Step 7: REINFORCING YOUR NEW BELIEFS

Repeating your new beliefs out loud to yourself or on paper can help you solidify your belief. Everytime an old self-limiting belief re-enters your thoughts and behaviour, do not allow it to take over any headspace. Repeat your new belief, make it stronger, make it real. Give it validity!
